About the PHK Wraps Program
WRAPS is a paid, 12-week, on-the-job training program inside real working kitchens that prepare from-scratch, nutrient-dense meals for our communities. Trainees build practical culinary skills, earn certifications, and receive mentorship to move confidently into employment.
What you’ll get

Paid training: 32 hours/week with embedded professional development and life-stability support.

Industry certifications: Food safety/handlers and additional certificates as available.

Hands-on experience: Work alongside chefs in a from-scratch, locally sourced kitchen serving childcare centers, recovery programs, seniors, and more.

Mentorship & coaching: Build professional competencies like time management, teamwork, initiative, leadership.
Skills you’ll learn

Knife skills, mise en place, recipe execution

Safe use of commercial equipment (kettles, ovens, slicers, OLIVER meal sealer)

Receiving, cleaning, and preparing local produce and proteins

Kitchen organization, sanitation, and HACCP-aligned practices

Service, communication, and job-readiness (résumé building, mock interviews)
A day in WRAPS
Morning huddle → hands-on station training → service prep → paid breaks → milestone time (career/education goals) → feedback & coaching.
Who should apply
Adults 18+ who are committed to learning, growing, and contributing to healthier communities through real food. No prior experience required. Reliable attendance and engagement are essential.
Why it matters
WRAPS strengthens our local food ecosystem by connecting farms, central kitchens, and community partners so more children and families can access fresh, healthy meals year-round. Your training directly supports nutrition, cooking, gardening, and workforce outcomes across West Virginia.
Location:
Huntington Central Kitchen and Morgantown Central Kitchen (with occasional work at partner sites).
