Workforce / Recovery Training Program We believe in the healing impact that high vibrational cooking experiences, coupled with the freshest locally grown fruits and vegetables, can have on mental and physical wellbeing. About the Workforce/Recovery Program In 2022, thanks to generous support and funding by the Benedum Foundation, Project Healthy Kids created a 7-week workforce training program to support individuals in substance recovery.  We believe in the healing impact that high vibrational cooking experiences, coupled with the freshest locally grown fruits and vegetables, can have on mental and physical wellbeing. With help and input from West Virginia Sober Living and Ascension Recovery Services, the first attendee was welcomed into the program in September 2022.  Working at a state of the art Commercial Kitchen at the Mon County Center's Community Food & Innovation Center (CFIC Kitchen) and with the culinary partnership of Healthy Kids Inc., participants can now learn how to prepare foods for children and communities in new, healthy, ways. This 7-week program utilizes an integrative approach to train recovery participants in culinary arts, nutrition, and agriculture where they can see and experience all facets of the localized food system from seed to table, with an emphasis on preparing foods that heal and nourish children in local Appalachia communities.   Participants will receive an hourly wage while working in the program, as well as other services from local partners. Testimonial I have been in the foodservice industry for 20 years.  I left the Kathy Ireland Recovery Center in Williamson, WV and then joined this program for 7 weeks.  I couldn't have asked for a better environment for my healing and recovery.  Being in the kitchen, working in a from-scratch environment, was awesome!  Giving back to others is important in recovery.  I feel this program will help others in the recovery community broaden their kitchen experience ten-fold and give them a chance to impact kids and communities through food.
